The Topic

Yesterday was a very controversial and challenging show!  The final topic we discussed was all about how girls as young as 11 are being prescribed the pill and the impact of that.  Does that mean that because it’s so redily availble that younsters are being more complacent with using other types of contraception like condoms?   Should doctors be informing parents if an 11 year old approaches them requesting the pill.  What does that mean for privacy and confidentiallity?  A caller by the name of Rinku also brought up the great point that what if the youngster is being abused?  Angela also made the great point that people might just get pregnant simply for the financial benefits of doing so.

The Outcome

We were unanimous in the studio that the it seems that the the british culture is way off when it comes to tackling issues surrounding sex and how we educate the younger generation.  Why are so many teens getting pregnant?  What can be done to reduce teenage pregnancies and how can we discourage youngsters from becoming sexually active at such a young age?  Maybe it’s not about discouragement at all but educating them in a way that allows them to make more informed and sensible decisions?  Your thoughts?

It’s something that we do need to address urgently.  We need to look into what other countries, that have been more successful in this area, have done in order to tackle this problem.
